Michael A. Kuna, M.D., M.S.

Michael A. Kuna, M.D., M.S. is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and their Evanston Hospital Residency Program.  He is board certified in psychiatry,  board certified in addiction psychiatry, board certified in addiction medicine and certified by ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine). Dr. Kuna treats all types of psychiatric illness in adolescents through adulthood including mood disorders, anxiety disorders and thought disorders.  He is a specialist in addiction treatment and works extensively with patients who have dual diagnoses (the combination of an addiction plus a psychiatric disorder). Dr. Kuna has authored educational materials for both professionals and lay people, including a DVD on depression. He is a co-founder of Genesis Clinical Services. In addition, he is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Rosalind Franklin University, The Chicago Medical School as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Rockford Campus.

Dr. Kuna has many outside interests ranging from playing the guitar to collecting old radios.  A self-described nerd he is our web designer, podcast producer and IT consultant.  A father of 4, he would describe a perfect day as sitting around a campfire with his family singing campfire songs (rather badly).

Dr. Kuna was the 2015 recipient of the National NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award.  The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) presents this prestigious award to only a select few doctors nationwide each year.  See it here.
